2026 New Initiatives

We are initiating three new programs that will occur early in the rehearsal season and can be repeated in future years.

  • We will perform two short concerts – one in collaboration with two local high schools, and one celebrating the 250th
anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. These are intended to raise community awareness and recruit new
    singers.
  • We will offer a set of skills seminars for members to improve their musicianship. These will be directed by LCCU member and choir director Dawn-Marie Conroy, and will be offered at a cost of $10 per session after the first session, which is presented free of charge (donations will be accepted).

Attendance at any/all sessions is optional.

Preparations for and commencement of these activities will begin on April 19, so we request that all interested singers (non-LCCU members invited and welcome) register as soon as possible. There will be no charge for the first skills seminar or for either concert, but we need to get a head count for the concerts so we can prepare accordingly. These activities are optional and can be selected at will. For convenience, we plan to conduct rehearsals directly after the skills seminars, but the two sessions are not linked. Attendance at either alone or both together are equally welcome.

The Board of Directors of the Litchfield County Choral Union (LCCU) is delighted to present Dr. Gabriel Löfvall as our official Music Director for the Union.

Dr. Gabriel Löfvall, Music Director, Litchfield County Choral Union

Dr. Gabriel Löfvall serves as Artistic Director of the Litchfield County Choral Union, having been appointed to the role following a highly successful debut season in 2024. He brings to the position a wealth of experience as a conductor, pianist, educator, and arts leader, with a deep commitment to choral excellence and community engagement. Under his direction, the LCCU continues its proud tradition of presenting choral-orchestral masterworks each summer in northwest Connecticut.

Originally from Mendoza, Argentina, Gabriel began his musical studies as a member of the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo Boys’ Choir under Maestro Marcelo Coltro. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, studying with Dora de Marinis, before moving to the United States in 1997. He holds dual Master’s degrees in Piano Performance and Choral Conducting from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, where he studied with Luiz de Moura Castro, and earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting there in 2016 under Dr. Edward Bolkovac.

Gabriel’s career has spanned North and South America as well as Europe, with performances and conducting appearances in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Canada, England, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Hungary, and the United States. He has served as assistant conductor of The Main Street Singers, sung with CONCORA (Connecticut Choral Artists), and co-directed Vallis Musicæ, an ecumenical ensemble of three church choirs that performed internationally.  He also led the Men’s Choir of the Connecticut Children’s Chorus, mentoring young tenors and basses in foundational vocal development.
He is the Artistic Director of Joyful Noise, Inc., the parent organization of Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus, two ensembles widely recognized for their expressive performances, international touring, and acclaimed recordings. Now based in Farmington, Connecticut, Chorus Angelicus is a vibrant children’s choir program that brings together young singers from diverse backgrounds and towns across the region. Under Gabriel’s leadership, the ensemble not only develops musical excellence but also fosters discipline, empathy, and community through the transformative power of choral singing. His work with these young artists reflects his deep belief in the role of music as a force for both education and human connection. In addition to his work with Joyful Noise, he is a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for festivals, workshops, and school programs throughout the Northeast.
Gabriel is currently the Director of Music at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford, the mother church of the Archdiocese of Hartford. There, he leads a thriving and ambitious sacred music program anchored by a fully professional Schola Cantorum. Under his direction, the Cathedral regularly presents major choral-orchestral repertoire within the liturgy, drawing on centuries of sacred music tradition. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to artistic excellence in worship and a renewed vision for the Cathedral as a regional center for sacred music. Prior to this, he served for 16 years as Director of Music at St. Patrick–St. Anthony Church in Hartford, where he grew the choir program, expanded its artistic offerings, and oversaw the installation of a 1977 Schantz organ in the sanctuary.
